Truck Attack In Nice Clouds Bastille Day Celebration In Chicago
(CBS) -- Here in Chicago, a Bastille Day celebration at Montrose Beach was interrupted by news of the terror attack in Nice.
CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reports.
It's normally a happy day. With French flags on display, people planned on picnicking and enjoying a movie in the park. Instead, they learned of yet another attack in France.
Tears are not the norm. But one couple vacationing in Chicago from Paris became emotional as they learned about the dozens killed.
"It's not a happy day," attendee Sylvette Nicolini says. "I love my country."
"It's really unfortunate to have such a tragic event on a day where we should be all cheerful and happy and celebrating together," Laetitia Leroy says.
Those gathered on the lakefront said they're still healing from the November terror attacks in Paris, making the events in Nice that much harder to comprehend.
