Trestman: Talk Of Urlacher's Return 'Premature'
(CBS) After 13 seasons with the team that drafted him, Brian Urlacher clearly wants to finish his career with the Bears.
That much is certain, according to new Bears head coach Marc Trestman, who said he and the 35-year-old linebacker chatted for about 30 minutes on the phone recently.
"There isn't any question he loves Chicago and this is where he wants to be," Trestman said Thursday.
Still, Trestman said addressing Urlacher's future at this point is "premature."
Urlacher missed four games last season with a hamstring injury, though he was hampered all season by a knee injury suffered in the final game of the 2011-12 season.
New defensive coordinator Mel Tucker wasn't tipping the Bears' hand when it comes to Urlacher, either.
"We're still in the evaluation process," Tucker said when asked if Urlacher was in the team's plans for next season. "We'll go through that at some point."
Trestman also said Bears fans shouldn't expect to see many changes as far as the defensive scheme is concerned.
