Trestman: 'Poor' Decision By Houston To Celebrate, Which Led To Injury
(CBS) In what feels like a microcosm of a season that's spiraling quickly down the wrong path, Bears defensive end Lamarr Houston injured his right knee, perhaps seriously, while celebrating his first sack of the season Sunday while Chicago was losing by 25 points in an eventual 51-23 loss at New England.
Afterward, Houston said he "probably shouldn't have celebrated while they were blowing us out, but it happens." On Monday morning, Bears coach Marc Trestman called it a "poor" decision by Houston.
"We were certainly very disappointed, but after looking at it, I know that the decision Lamarr made was a poor one, and the consequences not only hurt him but hurt our entire team," Trestman said in an interview with Josh Liss on WBBM Newsradio.
Houston has 11 tackles and one sack in eight games after signing a five-year, $35-million deal last offseason. He'll have an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of his injury.
Chicago is 3-5 and on a two-game losing streak. The Bears are off this week before playing the Packers at Lambeau Field in Week 10.
"I've got some strong emotions," Trestman said. "We spent two weeks playing not anywhere near the kind of football we need to play.
"We have a lot of work to do in this bye.
'We're not paid to play. We're paid to win."
