Trestman: No Coaching Changes 'At This Time'
(CBS) With his 3-6 Bears under fire after an embarrassing 55-14 loss to the rival Packers on Sunday night, Chicago coach Marc Trestman is defending his embattled staff.
"There will not be any at this time," Trestman said when asked if the Bears were making coaching changes.
Everyone has come under fire, notably Trestman and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker. The Bears defense has allowed more than 50 points in back-to-back games, becoming just the second team in NFL history to accomplish such futility. This comes one season after the Chicago defense submitted its worst season in franchise history.
"I watch him work every day," Trestman said of Tucker. "I watch him communicate with these players. I watch him work on the field with these players. To me, he's doing everything he can under these circumstances, to coach, to teach and lead that side of the ball. He's got a very good staff with him. They're great teachers.
"I feel very confident that he's doing the things he can do to help us move forward."
Later, Trestman added that he believes he has "excellent coaches" here in Chicago. Simply put, no one in the organization is getting the job done.
"We know our fans are disappointed," Trestman added. "They have a right to be. This has been a very disturbing stretch of three weeks."
