Traveling Vietnam Memorial Stops In Aurora
(CBS) -- It's one of the largest tributes to Vietnam veterans in the Midwest.
The Vietnam Healing Wall is now in Aurora.
CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot takes us to the opening ceremony.
They remember the lives lost in Vietnam.
"A lot of my friends are on the wall," Vietnam veteran Greg Clementz says. "I haven't slept a since I got out of 'nam a full night. Certain things, it's tough."
This is the Vietnam Moving Wall. It is in place on the grounds of West Aurora High School. Aurora is the 21st stop for the wall, after its nationwide tour this year.
At the opening ceremony, seeing and touching the wall meant a lot to 90-year-old World War II veteran Delmar Gerth.
There's also a "Healing Field," with 2,013 flags honoring the lives of servicemen and women lost.
Almedin Skoro was among the 80 students who volunteered to put the flags in place.
"You let the family know, you still care for their loved ones. It's not just them that is suffering the pain," Skoro says.
The Vietnam Moving Wall and the Healing Field of Flags will be at West Aurora High School until this Monday at dusk.
At that time, there will be a closing ceremony, complete with fireworks. The flags will be in place until Nov. 13.
