Updated 8/2/11 9:23 p.m.
CHICAGO (STMW) - Metra trains are back running Tuesday night on the Union Pacific North and Northwest lines after a high winds and a downed tree delayed some trains for over two hours.
Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said some Metra trains were stopped on the North and Northwest lines because of the high-wind weather advisory around 6:30 p.m. They started up again around 7:15 p.m. but soon after a train on the North line encountered a tree on the tracks causing trains on that line to be stopped again until about 8:30 p.m., Gillis said.
All told he said trains on the Northwest line were delayed about an hour and a half and those on the North line were delayed over two hours, up to two hours and 20 minutes, according to the Metra website.
"We are playing catch-up now, but the lines are moving," Gillis said at 9 p.m.
