Train Strikes Car In Hegewisch, Critically Injuring One
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The conductor of a Norfolk Southern freight train that collided with a car in Chicago's south side Hegewisch neighborhood today saw the driver go around the tracks, but the train couldn't stop in time.

Norfolk Southern's spokesman Robin Chapman tells Newsradio that the train was westbound carrying three locomotives and 48 rail cars, and going about 20 miles per hour when it crashed into the car.
The accident happened at 2:50am near near East 130th Street and South Torrence Avenue.
Chapman says the driver ignored the crossing gates, which were down at the time.
A Chicago fire media spokesman says the driver of the car was transported in critical condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
There were no injuries to anyone on the train.
