Freight train, car hauler truck involved in crash in Plainfield, Illinois
PLAINFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- A car hauler truck hung into a railroad crossing while stuck in traffic in Plainfield early Monday evening, and ended up getting hit by a freight train.
Plainfield police said around 5:25 p.m., a car hauler truck with cars onboard its trailer was headed west on Route 126 and stopped due to traffic near the railroad crossing just west of Center Street.
A short time later, a freight train headed south approached the crossing and struck the trailer—as it was overhanging the tracks.
Photos from the scene showed tanker cars on the freight rain, and also a red car that appeared to be damaged. It was not immediately clear whether this car fell off the car hauler truck or was being driven on the road at the time.
A wrecked pickup truck was also seen onboard the car hauler truck after the crash.
No one was injured in the crash, Plainfield police said.
Route 126, Naperville Road, and 143rd Street were blocked by the train after the crash, Plainfield police said. All roads had reopened by 8:43 p.m.
