Toyota, Honda, Ford Vehicles Focus Of Recalls
DETROIT (AP) - Two automakers are issuing recalls involving millions of vehicles due to concerns about braking, while the government urges Ford owners to heed a recall linked to engine fires.
Less than a year after dealing with runaway cars, Toyota is recalling 1.5 million vehicles to deal with brake-fluid and fuel pump troubles. It involves some Lexus and Toyota models manufactured from 2004 to 2006.
Honda plans to recall an undetermined number of vehicles because of brake fluid leaks that could lead to weaker braking power. It involves certain 2005-2007 Acura RL sedans and Honda Odyssey minivans manufactured from 2005 to early 2007. So far, Honda says there have been no injuries or accidents tied to the problem.
And the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is urging owners of recalled Ford vehicles linked to engine fires to get them fixed. The recall involves more than 17 million Ford vehicles recalled since 1999 because of faulty cruise control switches. Officials say only about 40 percent of the covered vehicles have been repaired thus far. The cruise control switches can overheat and lead to a fire.
