Towering Natural Gas Flame To Light Sky In Waukegan
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (CBS) -- If you live in the far north suburbs, you could awaken to a huge flame in the sky Wednesday morning.
As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, North Shore Gas says in the early morning hours, it will conduct a controlled burn as it moves about 3,000 feet of a 12-inch high-pressure gas main, and 10,000 feet of a medium pressure pipe, north to Yorkhouse Road in Waukegan.
The shift is necessary because of a road construction project on Delany Road.
As they complete the relocation, gas crews will have to burn off the remaining gas in the existing main. That act is expected to shoot a flame 40 to 50 feet into the air.
The gas company says the towering flame will probably last for a few hours. The company is asking that any residents who smell gas or suspect a leak inside or outside to report their observations.
