Tornado Warning Issued For Several Counties, Including Cook
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A severe line of storms capable of producing rain-wrapped tornadoes — and wind gusts of up to 80 mph — has been spotted in the western suburbs and appears to be heading to Chicago, the National Weather Service warns.
A tornado warning is in effect until 9 p.m. for west central Cook, DuPage, southeastern DeKalb, Grundy, Will, Kendall and Kane counties, the weather service said.
The NWS Doppler Radar indicated a severe squall line capable of producing brief rain-wrapped tornadoes in addition to widespread straight line wind damage.
The dangerous storm were spotted moving northeast at 45 mph extending from Maple Park to North Aurora to Oswego to Coal City.
The dangerous storms will be near West Chicago, St. Charles and Shorewood by 8:20 p.m. and near Woodridge, Wheaton and Romeoville by 8:30 p.m.
