Sentencing Date Set For Tony Rezko

CHICAGO (AP) -- A sentencing date has finally been set for a former fundraiser of impeached Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
At a status hearing in Chicago on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve told attorneys she'd sentence Tony Rezko on Jan. 28 for his conviction two years ago for shaking down people who wanted state business.
The 55-year-old Rezko remains in jail. He didn't appear in court Thursday.
The judge asked defense attorney Joe Duffy if Rezko wanted to be sentenced before the corruption retrial of Blagojevich in April. Duffy told her that's his wish.
Rezko didn't testify at Blagojevich's first corruption trial that ended largely in deadlock. But Rezko's attorney has said his client is prepared to testify at Blagojevich's retrial, if asked.
