Toni Preckwinkle Names New CFO, Vows Staff Cuts
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has named a new chief financial officer - as county elected officials face a Thursday deadline to come up with budget cuts.
Not all Cook County elected officials have submitted their plans to cut their budgets as directed by Preckwinkle.

She says by Thursday, they need to come up with something.
"We're obliged to submit a balanced budget and we hope for their help and cooperation," said Preckwinkle. "And we'll submit a balanced budget whether or not we get their help or cooperation."
Preckwinkle says her own office - which accounts for 8 percent of the budget - is making cuts.
"Lots of staff positions," she said.
Preckwinkle has named Tariq Malhance as the new county chief financial officer.
Malhance was Chicago city comptroller and retired in November 2005.
