Tollway Reroute Project Will Mean Detours, Confusion
ROSEMONT, Ill. (CBS) -- A major highway project in the northern suburbs will mean detours and require a hefty dose of patience.
As WBBM Newsradio's Keith Johnson reports, the $13 million construction project being mounted by the Illinois Toll Highway Authority will include the closure of two major ramps at the interchange of the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90).
The Daily Herald says the detour, using Touhy Avenue and River Road, will force drivers through both the Touhy Avenue Toll Plaza on I-294, and the Devon Avenue Toll Plaza on I-90.
Tollway officials tell the newspaper your I-Pass account will be charged just once, even though you will be using I-Pass only lanes in both plazas.
Cash-paying motorists will need to stay in the detour lane at the Touhy Toll Plaza and ask for a receipt, which they will need to present at the Devon Plaza.
