Toews Named Messier Leadership Award Finalist
(CBS) Blackhawks star Jonathan Toews has been named a finalist for the Mark Messier Leadership Award, presented annually to the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities on and off the ice.
The Kings' Dustin Brown and the Ducks' Ryan Getzlaf were the other two finalists.
"It's always an honor to be recognized for these awards," Toews said in a statement. "It's a great reflection of what your team and your teammates have helped you accomplish when you get that individual recognition."
Toews was third on the Blackhawks this season with 68 points, and he is active with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. One of his more notable acts was a special skating session with four-year-old Nicholas Skretkowski prior to the Stadium Series at Soldier Field earlier this season.
Toews is also active with a number of other community and fundraising groups.
The award will be presented June 24 in Las Vegas, and the winner will be chosen by Messier himself.
