Toews Named As Finalist For Selke, Best Defensive Forward
CHICAGO (CBS) A day after losing to the Vancouver Canucks and being eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has been named as a finalist for the league's Frank J. Selke Trophy.
Toews joins Pavel Datsyuk, of the Detroit Red Wings, and Ryan Kesler, of the Canucks, as the players in the running.
The Selke Trophy is awarded annually "to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game," and is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.
The award is voted on at the end of the regular season, so playoff performance isn't taken into consideration.
In 80 regular season games, Toews scored 76 points (32 G, 44 A) and posted a +25 rating while averaging 20:46 of ice time per night.
Datsyuk has won the award the previous three seasons.
