Toews' Leadership Is Unparralled At His Age

On July 7, 2008 the Chicago Blackhawks named Jonathan Toews as the team's captain, it would make him the third youngest captain in the history of the NHL.

In the seasons since, he's done nothing but live up to the letter on his sweater. But has there ever been another player with the type of leadership Toews has at such a young age?

"No," former Blackhawk and current analyst Steve Konroyd said on the Danny Mac Show. "And I played with Steve Yzerman, and Stevie was the captain there for a long time. I think he got the 'C' when he was 21. But he was a quite captain. And he led by example on the the ice too, but not to the extent that Jonathan Toews does. I also played with Bryan Trottier, a great leader, but he certainly didn't have the offensive ability of a Jonathan Toews.

"That's the thing I love about J.T., he's got the offense, he's got the leadership ability, but he also plays unbelievable defense and the attention to detail from him, at such a young age, it's unbelievable. And it rubs off on the other guys and you're starting to see it from some of those other guys, and that's a good thing for any winning team."
