Toews Could Be Key To Shutting Down Sedins

VANCOUVER (WSCR) -- While center Dave Bolland traveled with the Chicago Blackhawks to Vancouver, and practiced with the team on Tuesday, his status for the opening game against the Canucks is still uncertain.

In the previous two postseason matchups between the Blackhawks and Canucks, Bolland, and his grittiness, went a long way towards shutting down one of the best offensive units in the NHL.

"They were just beating the Sedins with Bolland," Steve Rosenbloom said on the Danny Mac Show.

But Bolland hasn't seen game action since he suffered a concussion on March 9, in a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

"Even if Bolland comes back and thinks he can play," Rosenbloom said. "How good is he really going to be? How aggravating can he really be?"

The Blackhawks, and head coach Joel Quenneville, need to be prepared for a scenario where Bolland isn't as effective as he's been in the past. And if that's the case, Coach Q could rely on his Captain to limit the Swedish twins.

"I would think that Quenneville will throw the [Jonathan] Toews-line out there, becuase the Sedins don't want to pay in their own zone," Rosenbloom said. "He's the best player in the series, Toews. He's going to play at both ends, he can check. And that's one of the few lines the Blackhawks still have that can play puck possession, and the best way to beat the Sedins is to not let them have the puck."
