Toddler struck in hand by accidental gunfire in west Chicago suburbs

LYONS, Ill. (CBS) -- A 2 1/2-year-old boy was struck in the hand when a gun accidentally discharged in west suburban Lyons Friday.

At 3 p.m. the toddler and a 16-year-old boy were in a room in a home in the 4000 block of Center Avenue in Lyons, when the unsecured weapon discharged, according to village spokesman Ray Hanania.

The toddler was struck in the hand by gunfire and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was stabilized, Hanania said.

Police in Lyons were interviewing late Friday everyone to figure out what happened.
