Today's Forecast (10/31/14): Wind, Rain, Snow For Halloween
By Todd Feurer
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The first – and perhaps worst – trick for Chicagoans this Halloween just might be the wicked weather.
Snow flurries were falling across the Chicago area Friday morning.
The National Weather Service said a tenth of an inch of snow was measured at O'Hare International Airport, and in Rockford by 9 a.m. It's the first time Chicago has had any snow on Halloween since 1993, and the first Halloween snow for Rockford since 1935.
It was also the first measurable amount of snow for either Chicago or Rockford on Halloween.
Temperatures across the Chicago area ranged from 32 to 40 degrees around sunrise.
Conditions won't be much better once the kids go out for trick-or-treating, as a rain-snow mix and very windy conditions are expected Friday afternoon, and temperatures will be in the high 30s or low 40s.
While the snow was not expected to stick around long in northeastern Illinois, parts of northwest Indiana could get as much as 1 to 3 inches of snow during the course of the day.

In addition to rain and snow, high winds will batter the area, to an excessive degree in some places. A wind advisory has been issued from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Lake, McHenry, DuPage, Kane, Will, Kankakee and Kendall counties in Illinois; and for Jasper, Newton, Pulaski and Starke counties in Indiana.
A high wind warning also has been issued for Cook County, and Lake and Porter counties in Indiana, due to wind gusts as strong as 60 mph.
As a result, the National Weather Service also has issued a lakeshore flood advisory for Cook County, and Lake and Jasper counties in Indiana, as gusting winds will create waves of up to 23 feet high on the southern tip of Lake Michigan.
