As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bob Conway reports, the proposed ordinance stems from complaints that came largely from concertgoers attending events at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheater, at 191st Street and Ridgeland Avenue.
Tentative approval has already been given to the proposed ordinance, which would require all cabs to be equipped with a meter and adhere to a fare rate of $2 per mile.
The ordinance also includes background checks for drivers, and requires them to display the fare rates and provide a village phone number where customers could report complaints.
Village trustees told the Chicago Tribune a final vote will be taken Dec. 7, and cabbies will then be invited to a meeting where the new rules will be explained so they can meet the requirements as of Jan. 1.
