Manhunt Underway In Tinley Park For Suspects Tied To Shooting, Double Homicide
CHICAGO (CBS)-- A manhunt in underway for two men in Tinley Park.
Several law enforcement agencies are looking for murder suspects tied to a shooting in Posen and a double homicide in Hammond, Indiana.
"What we think were two other suspects that fled into the surrounding woods in that area," said Pat Carr, Tinley Park Village Manager.
Tinley Park Police said around 10 p.m. Thursday they received a message from Illinois State Police about suspects wanted for a shooting near Ridgeland Avenue and 183rd Street.
The three men were in a car, when officers spotted them. After a high-speed chase, the suspects crashed near Ridgeland and Oak Forest Avenues, and ran in different directions .
"The vehicle subsequently crashed into the railroad tracks at the T intersection," Carr said.
Hammond, Indiana police said the car the men were in is being investigated for a double homicide that happened on Oct. 7. They are working to confirm the connection.
Police arrested one person.
"Our police department did apprehend the individual. That individual was turned over to Posen police department," Carr said.
Multiple law enforcement agencies spent about seven hours searching for the other two suspects.
"We conducted a thorough search of the area with approximately over 70 officers from around 15 different agencies including state and county with bloodhounds, helicopters, and drones," Carr said.
At 5 a.m., the area was deemed safe and called off the search. Now, they are asking residents to look at their ring cameras for possible video footage that may be connected to the case.
As for what people should be looking for.
"Maybe a teen, late teens early 20s. Black hoodie dark jeans. That's about the only description we had," Carr said.
Tinley Park Police say the investigation continues. but they don't feel the public is in any danger.
