Three Shot Outside Southwest Suburban Grocery Store
LOCKPORT TWP., Ill. (STMW) -- Three people who were shot outside a food mart Wednesday all were listed in good or stable condition and were expected to survive, police said Thursday.
The shootings happened shortly after 6 p.m. outside Keyes Grocery, a small business at 1609 Fairmont Ave. in the middle of the Fairmont neighborhood, the Joliet Herald News is reporting.
Four people were entering the store at the same time, Will County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said, but a 26-year-old Chicago Heights man and 24-year-old Joliet man who got shot did not know the 43-year-old Joliet woman and the other man they met near the door.
One bullet struck the woman in the back and she suffered a collapsed lung and collapsed in the store's driveway, Kaupas said. Her companion was not injured.
The Chicago Heights man was struck in the buttocks and the Joliet man was hit in his right armpit. They ran from the scene to Cardinal Lane, where Joliet police found them. They were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and were in good or stable condition, Kaupas said Thursday.
Police had not determined which of the victims were the targets of the attack; nor had they identified any suspects, Kaupas said.
Bullets also struck the outside wall of the store, and two went into a glass case about 10 feet inside the store, according to reports.
