Three Shot In Morgan Park; 7 Hurt When Responding CFD Vehicle Crashes

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person is dead and two were wounded in a shooting Sunday in the Morgan Park neighborhood, and seven more were hurt when a fire chief car crashed on its way to the scene.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bob Conway reports, the shooting took place around 3:30 p.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. The gunfire came from a passing vehicle.

Three men and boys were shot in the attack as they walked down the 11600 block of South Ada Street. The victims were 20, 17 and 16.
The gunfire came from someone inside a white or tan vehicle, O'Brien said.
One of the victims was shot in the chest and abdomen, O'Brien said. Another was shot in his mouth and a third was shot in the side.
Two of the victims were able to run inside a home on the block, while another collapsed on the street, O'Brien said.
Two people were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and a third person was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Fire Media Affairs Chief Joe Roccasalva said. All were initially listed in critical condition.
The 20-year-old man later died.
As CBS 2's Vince Gersaole reports, the block where the shooting happened is made up of neatly-kept ranch homes. But on Sunday night, it was wrapped in crime scene tape, and the road surface was peppered by bullet markers and an abandoned gun.
"The first thing I did was hit the floor, and my daughter was home. She hit the floor," said neighbor Richard Sharrief.
Sharrief's home is now marred with two bullet holes. He bought it just last August because it was mostly a quiet neighborhood.
"I looked out the window after I got up off the floor. I looked out the window and I saw two guys. One was obviously hurt, and he was limping toward the corner," Sharrief said.
The violence rattled many other neighbors' nerves.
"The first thing, when I saw the cars and everything, I'm like, 'Oh, I'm moving,' but it's like, if I go somewhere else, who's to say it won't happen there?" said neighbor Latishia Sanders.
Meanwhile, a Fire Department paramedic field chief was headed to the scene to attend to the victims, when he struck a vehicle at 116th Street and Wentworth Avenue, police said. The other vehicle had run a red light.
The driver of that vehicle was cited for not having insurance and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.
Seven people were injured in the crash, according to Roccasalva. Four children, two adults and the Chicago Fire Department paramedic were taken in serious condition to Roseland Community Hospital and Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island.
"The neighborhood is changing," Sanders said.
In the meantime back on Ada Street, longtime neighbors are concerned about pockets of problems that have been created as newer residents move in.
"I just hope they catch the guys who did it, and bring peace back to the community," Sharrief said.
No one was in custody Monday morning in connection with the shooting.
