Three Men Charged After Police-Involved Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) - A "man with a gun" call resulted in the arrest of three men, one of whom apparently refused to drop a weapon he was holding on the South Side, police said. No one was hurt.

At 12:26 a.m. in the 7700 block of South Yates Boulevard, police fired shots at a suspect, according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez. No one was struck and three men -- Trevell Moore, Robert Lipsey and Marc Davis have been charged.

A police News Affairs statement said the incident unfolded when uniformed officers on patrol in a marked police vehicle responded to a man with a gun call at the Yates address.

While touring the area, the officers observed a vehicle with the rear license plate covered and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle at the Yates address, the statement said.

When the officers approached the vehicle, the officers observed Robert Lipsey place an unknown object under the seat inside the vehicle when Marc Davis exited the car and pulled a handgun from his waistband, according to the statement.

The officer ordered Davis to drop the weapon, and the officer, fearing for his life, fired one shot at Davis but did not hit him, according to the statement.

Two weapons were recovered and all three suspects were placed into custody.

Lipsey, 31, of the 7600 block of South Colfax Avenue, was charged with unlawful use of weapon by a felon and resisting a police officer while Davis, 32, of the 8200 block of South Michigan Avenue, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with unlawful use of weapon by a felon; two counts of resisting a police officer; aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated assault, the statement said.

Moore, 21, of the 8200 block of South Muskegon Avenue, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, not wearing a seatbelt and not having visible license plates. He was the behind the wheel of the vehicle involved.

One of the officers sustained a broken finger during the course of arrest. The officer was treated for the injury and released from an area hospital, according to the statement.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
