3 Firefighters Hurt After Roof Collapses In Gary, Ind.
GARY, Ind. (CBS) -- Three firefighters were hurt in Gary, Ind., on Tuesday when the ceiling of a burning building collapsed on them.
The injuries were not life-threatening, but the firefighters were carried out of a third-floor window and taken to Methodist Hospitals' Northlake campus in Gary, according to the Post-Tribune.
Battalion Chief Robert Groszewski said about 20 firefighters responded to the fire in a three-story building at 21st Avenue and Washington Street, the site of the former Campbell Friendship House.
The fire appeared to start in a third-floor stairwell, according to Groszewski. The third floor was gutted, but the first and second floors sustained only water and smoke damage.
Only a handful of other businesses occupied the first floor.
