Three Family Members Hospitalized After North Side Hit-And-Run
(CBS) -- Three members of one family remain hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.
It happened around 8:35 p.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of West Devon Avenue in the West Rogers Park neighborhood.
CBS 2's Mai Martinez reports.
"It was pretty bad," witness Jessie Gonzalez says.
He's talking about the hit-and-run that sent 28-year-old Faseeh "Sohaib" Biabani and his parents the hospital in critical condition.
"I thought it was just a normal crash right here, until I went right down there, and I looked down that way and I saw people," he says.
One victim, 71-year-old Syeda Biabani, was rushed to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. Monday, she was listed in serious condition.
Over at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, her husband, Qazi Biabani, was upgraded to fair condition and her son was listed in good condition.
Meantime, Chicago police are looking for the driver of the black Toyota Avalon that struck them.
"I just hope they get better and hopefully they catch the guy, you know? It could have been my mom," Gonzalez says.
Business owners in the area say the intersection is dangerous and just last year, a man was killed while trying to cross the street there.
They also say because of that accident a crosswalk sign was installed, but it was recently removed because of road work in the area.
Police were talking with a person on interest on Monday in connection with the hit-and-run.
There are several surveillance cameras on that stretch of Devon, including a Chicago Police blue light camera.
