Three Counties Announce Joint Effort To Stop Elder Abuse
KANE COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM) -- The state's attorneys of three counties have announced a joint effort to scrutinize the deaths of some elderly residents in the future - with the intention of putting a stop to elder abuse.
As WBBM's Steve Miller explains, Kane County has had efforts in place for several years - efforts to advocate for seniors and to review certain deaths to see if abuse played a role.

Now Kendall County and DeKalb County have signed on.
Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon says efforts to advocate for children and for women in abusive relationships were established long ago.
"Elder abuse, in comparison, is light years behind the issues of child abuse and domestic abuse, and I don't think we're doing enough to advocate for our elders."
McMahon says in Kane County, referrals about possible cases of elder abuse have risen dramatically over the past 10 years.
