Three Charged After Two-Month Investigation Of Aurora Sex Assault
UPDATE: Prosecutors eventually dropped the assault charge against Brown, and charging him with misdemeanor battery, according to press reports. In October, 2020 the case against him was expunged, according to documents from the Kane County Sheriff's office.
AURORA, Ill. (STMW) -- Three west suburban Aurora men have been charged with criminal sexual assault as the result of an ongoing investigation into an August attack on a 25-year-old Joliet woman.
Charged by Aurora police this week were Corderro A. Pollard, 22, and Eric Stallworth Jr., 21, both of the 1500 block of Kenilworth Place, and Shammrie M. Brown, 25, of the 600 block of South Ohio Street.
Police said the men drank alcohol with the victim at a Naperville restaurant on Aug. 10. The victim and all three men then went to the home Pollard and Stallworth shared on Kenilworth Place. Pollard and Stallworth then had sex with the woman, who was too intoxicated to give consent, police said.
Brown did not have sex with the woman, police said, but he was present in the apartment at the time of the assault and made no attempt to stop it.
Pollard and Stallworth are both charged with three counts of felony criminal sexual assault. Brown is charged with one count of felony sexual assault.
Aurora University officials said Friday that the university is cooperating with police in the investigation, but would not comment on whether any of the men are current or former AU students.
According to charging documents, Stallworth was taken into custody on Tuesday at Aurora University. He was listed as a junior wide receiver on the university's 2011 football roster, but has not been affiliated with the team during the current season.
Pollard was listed as a junior defensive tackle on the university's 2011 online football roster. He has no current affiliation with the team, either, university officials said.
According to a 2010 press release issued by the university, Brown was named the school's Lincoln Academy of Illinois' Student Laureate Award winner for 2010. The release said Brown was majoring in social work, served as president of the Black Student Association and was a student ambassador for the pre-college experience sponsored by the Quad County Urban League.
Brown is currently a part-time employee at the Urban League, where he works as a youth development coordinator, according to Theodia Gillespie, president and CEO at the Urban League.
Gillespie said Friday the Urban League is "trying to sort it out," and will not know whether Brown will be put on leave, "until we can get more details on what's happening... but he's not working with anyone at this point."
The investigation is ongoing and all three men are in Kane County jail on $300,000 bail.
