Three Boys Charged With Fatal Shooting During North Lawndale Robbery
(STMW) -- Three teenagers have been charged with shooting a 15-year-old boy to death last week during an attempted robbery in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.
The teenagers were each charged with first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery with the discharge of a firearm causing bodily harm, according to a statement from Chicago Police. Their names were not released because of their ages.
About 10 p.m. Wednesday, the boys, ages 14, 15 and 16, approached 15-year-old Kimon Wheeler and announced a robbery in the 4100 block of West Cullerton, authorities said.
He turned to run and was shot in the back, police said.
Wheeler, of the 2100 block of West Jackson, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:38 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy Thursday ruled his death a homicide.
The teenagers, who were charged as adults, were each scheduled for a bond hearing Sunday.
