Thousands Take Part In Ron Santo Diabetes Walk
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Organizers of this year's "Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes" say 7,000 people turned out on Chicago's lakefront Sunday.
This was the 35th annual Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes. Santo's son Jeff told the crowd that his father attended every one of them.

"My father in 1960, he took one shot in the morning and went by how he felt. And that was it. And that's how he played the game of baseball and became a Hall of Famer. So it shows you what you can do with the disease."
"That's all we teach Jenna, is the positive side."
Jennifer Skweres and her husband Mark were at the walk with their 6-year-old daughter Jenna, who was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 18 months old.
"We don't give her a reason to not acknowledge the fact that she needs to take care of herself.
"There might be points when she is angry, and of course we are as well. But it's not an option to be angry."
The Chicago area Walk to Cure Diabetes expects to raise $4 million this year for diabetes research.
