Thousands Line Route For Arlington Heights 4th Of July Parade

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (CBS) -- Thousands lined the streets of Arlington Heights today celebrating the Fourth of July with the largest parade in the region, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.

Senator Mark Kirk looked down the parade route at all the red, white and blue, the families, the dogs, the kids waving flags.

"What you see here is pure Americana here," Kirk said. "Moms, dads, brothers, sisters all in red, white and blue. This has got to be one of the most patriotic communities in America."

The parade has long been a destination for politicians, with Governor Bruce Rauner and others in attendance today.

According to an organizer, the parade has grown into the largest Fourth of July parade in the northern part of Illinois.

"Little Miss Poppy" Alexis Horn was representing American Legion Post 208.

"We make these scrapbooks in order to go to national, which is a very big deal," she said.
Her dad, Don Horn, is the commander of Post 208.
