Police quickly arrested two other teenagers, who are being held at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Facility.
Dolton Police Lieutenant Harry Blaundin said the shooting occurred after classes had let out Monday. He said the victim and a friend were leaving through a side door when they were confronted by two boys, ages 14 and 15. The 15-year-old had a gun and the 14 year-old was on a bicycle.
The pair demanded money and cellphones, and Blaundin said the 17-year-old Thornridge student and his friend complied.
Blaundin said the 15-year-old allegedly handed the 14-year-old the gun, and the 14-year-old fired it once, striking the 17-year-old boy in the thigh.
When the 14-year-old got home, his mother confronted him -- and within the hour turned him in to Dolton police, with information that led to the other teen.
Blaundin said both victims and others who witnessed the shooting also cooperated fully.
The 15-year-old is charged as an adult, and the 14-year-old as a juvenile, with robbery and unlawful weapons use on school property.
The 17-year-old is already out of the hospital, Blaundin said.
