Thome, Twins Agree To 2011 Contract
The White Sox will have to deal with former player Jim Thome playing for the rival Minnesota Twins for at least one more season.
Thome and the Twins have agreed to a $3 million, one-year contract.
The deal, announced Friday by the Twins, includes performance bonuses for plate appearances.
The 40-year-old hit 25 home runs in only 276 at-bats last season and ranks eighth with 589 homers. Thome doesn't play in the field anymore, but he gave the AL Central champion Twins a big lift, particularly after first baseman Justin Morneau's concussion created an everyday spot in the lineup.
The five-time All-Star hit .283 with 16 doubles, two triples, 59 RBIs and 60 walks in 2010. He talked often about how much he enjoyed playing for the Twins.
