Third Man Charged In Little Village Beating Death
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A third alleged gang member has been charged in the beating death of a man on a Little Village neighborhood street earlier this week.
Mario Ascencio, 40, of the 2600 block of South St. Louis Avenue, has been charged with murder, according to police News Affairs Officer Michael Fitzpatrick. He had been scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday, but his bond was not immediately learned.
On Wednesday, Judge Israel Desierto set bond for Garcia at $600,000 and for Ortiz at $500,000 bond, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.
Garcia, Ortiz and Ascencio are accused of being accomplices in the murder of Armando Corral, who was beaten to death about 1 a.m. Monday in the 3000 block of South St. Louis, according to police.
Corral was in his 50s was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 4:20 a.m. Monday, the medical examiner's office said.
An autopsy Tuesday determined Corral, of the 3000 block of South Christiana Avenue, died of abdominal bleeding from multiple injuries suffered in a beating, according to the medical examiner's office. His death was ruled a homicide.
All three suspects are members of the Latin Kings, police said.
