Third Man Charged Following Fatal Shooting Of Bensenville Clerk
WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) -- A Chicago man is charged with harassing a witness in the case of a northwest suburban Bensenville store clerk shot to death during a robbery in January.
Stephan Russell, 20, is charged with four counts of harassment of a witness and two counts of intimidation, all felonies, DuPage County State's Attorney's office spokesman Paul Darrah said.
He is the third person to be charged in connection with the Jan. 19 shooting that killed 36-year-old clerk Hussein Saghir at Sam's Tobacco and Food Mart, 235 W. Irving Park Rd., authorities said.
Prosecutors have already charged Tremayne Davis, 23, and Kenneth Bardlett, 20, with first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery in connection with the incident, prosecutors said previously. Davis was also charged with obstructing justice.
Davis, Bardlett, and at least one other accomplice encountered the clerk as he exited the store, and Davis drove the group away after the shooting, authorities have claimed.
Prosecutors said in January they were still seeking the person thought to have fired the shot that killed Saghir.
According to court records, Russell is accused of throwing an object at the vehicle of Bardlett's relative with the intent to harass her about 3 p.m. March 14. The relative may serve as a witness in the case, records state.
Russell, of the 3500 block of West Armitage Avenue, is being held at the DuPage County Jail on $2.5 million bond, Darrah said. He will next appear in court March 14.
Davis will next appear for a status hearing April 16, and Bardlett will next appear for a status hearing March 26, according to DuPage court records.
