Thief Makes Off With Boy Scouts' Collection Box
CHICAGO (CBS) -- It's not quite taking candy from a baby, but stealing a Boy Scout troop's money is still pretty low.
WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports a Valparaiso attorney has volunteered to replace Boy Scout Troop 920's stolen money, after someone lifted their collection box at the Valparaiso Popcorn Festival last week. The scouts had been selling steamed corn, soda, and water during the festival.
The scouts were breaking down at the end of the day, momentarily took their eye off their lockbox, and someone walked off with $3,500.
Personal injury attorney Donald Wruck said he was beyond dismayed when he heard about the theft.
"This is the kind of person who would steal from a church, or their own mother. It's really upsetting," Wruck said.
He said he plans to present Troop 920 with enough money to replace what was stolen. He's also putting up $1,000 as reward money to help catch the thief or thieves.
