Thief Breaks Into Cars, Steals Purses During Jewish Youth Meeting
BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. (CBS) -- Police in Buffalo Grove are looking for a thief who broke into three parked cars and stole purses while the owners were attending a Jewish youth meeting.
The break-in happened about 8:15 a.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of Weiland Road, as the Jewish Council for Youths was meeting, Buffalo Grove police said.
During a 10-minute period, the windows of three parked cars were shattered, and purses were stolen from the front seats or floors of the cars, police said.
Security video showed a suspicious car in the area at the time of the thefts. The driver of a silver Ford Edge with tinted windows and no front license plate entered the parking lot, parked in various parking spots and then left, police said.
It's unclear whether the cars were targeted, or whether the incident could be classified as a hate crime.
