The Museum Of Science And Industry Opens New Exhibit Celebrating Flight
CHICAGO (CBS) – The Museum of Science and Industry opened Tuesday a new temporary exhibit, presented by Boeing in celebration of its 100th anniversary.
The exhibit, Above and Beyond gives guests a look at aviation's past, while looking toward aerospace's advancements for the future. The exhibit focuses on how past inventors turned their dream of flying into a reality, and how current innovators continue to push past the limits of Earth and space.
"Think about it, just 50 years ago we were talking about going to the moon," said John Blazey, Boeing's VP of Global Corporate Citizenship. "Just 100 years ago, we were horse and buggies and now we are talking about going to Mars."
Guests will have the opportunity to explore hands-on, with interactive areas. There will be a group flying experience, featuring motion-sensing technology that transforms guests into birds; a design-you-own virtual fighter jet area where guests can race against other pilots; and, an elevator that will take guests to the edge of space.
"Sparking an interest in the wonder of aerospace at an early age is a priority for Boeing, and the Above and Beyond exhibition provides future engineers, pilots or astronauts with an interactive glimpse into how they can achieve their dreams and inspires them to pursue careers in science and technology," said Greg Hyslop, Boeing chief technology officer.
The exhibit is open from Oct. 4 to Jan. 8. Above and Beyond is included in the museum's general admission, which costs $18 for adults and $11 for children ages 3-11.
A free, time-entry ticket is required and will be available at the exhibit's entrance.
