The Bernstein Brief: No Chance Michael Jordan Wants Warriors Breaking Bulls' Record

(CBS) He might have said it, but I don't believe he meant it.
Warriors sharpshooter Klay Thompson said Michael Jordan told him this weekend "Go ahead and break the record," referring to the Bulls' 72-win season in 1995-'96 that's endangered by Golden State's 48-4 start.
It may appear that Jordan has finally matured, his long-simmering competitive fire cooling to mere embers at the age of 52, as he realizes there are more important things in life than crushing one's opponent at anything and everything.
Right.
Not. A. Chance.
Jordan doesn't want this record broken any more than he wants to lose on the golf course, at the blackjack table or anywhere else. I don't care what words may have come out of his mouth, but there's no way that this pathological competitor would be fine with one of his legendary achievements being topped.
Not this guy -- sorry. Not the same Michael Jordan known for cheating at college card games, throwing tantrums over disputed scorekeeping during practice scrimmages, punching teammates, constantly challenging the alpha-dogs of his Wizards and Bobcats teams to one-on-one, trash-talking in even the most mundane circumstances and even using his Hall of Fame induction speech to scorch the earth of all his personal demons and doubters.
Nope. Not buying it.
