The Bernstein Brief: Bulls Keep Making Same Movie

By Dan Bernstein--
CBSChicago.com senior columnist

(CBS) Executive producer Gar Forman confirmed it Thursday -- the whole cast and most of the crew will indeed be back for another installment of the long-running film franchise. Reports also say that pre-production has begun on "NBA Hell 8."

Audiences can't seem to get enough of this plucky bunch of hustling overachievers, starting with the first "NBA Hell" movie in 2008-'09, when Vinnie Del Negro was directing and stars Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah were making their big splash.

The next year's sequel, "NBA Hell 2," introduced super-villain LeBron James, and the series really began to take off.

That's when Tom Thibodeau took the directorial reins, lending his unique artistic vision to the project for five more installments of the same proven formula, with all the regular-season wins and battling through injuries meeting an inglorious playoff end amid conflict and recrimination. Pass the popcorn!

Thibodeau's involvement stopped due to creative differences after "NBA Hell 7," however, so it's Fred Hoiberg's turn behind the camera.

What will happen next for our indefatigable friends, in yet another story of a doomed attempt to finally surpass their evil nemesis? There's Rose, Noah and all the other fan favorites -- Kirk the Zombie, the swashbuckling old Spaniard, adorable sidekick Aaron, Jimmy G. Bucks (The "G" stands for "Gets!"), Beardo the Magnificent and the rest are ready for action.

Coming soon!
