The Amazing View Above The Chicago Fog Will Blow Your Mind

CHICAGO (CBS) -- For much of this past week, the city's skyline has gone AWOL.

It has been cloaked in a veil of fog, as if transported to London or San Francisco.

The polar vortex (remember that?) is partially to blame after it froze Lake Michigan nearly solid and left the water colder than normal.

The cold water and warm, moist air cocktail creates a high ball known as fog.

The beautiful tops of buildings like Hancock, Willis and Trump are all still there.

We sent CBS 2 chopper pilot Eliot Sprague into the heavens to prove it.

Here is his amazing collection of images, which were taken on Thursday evening.

"I thought you may enjoy these shots we snapped last night," Sprague wrote in an email to CBS 2. "It was a beautiful night."
