Thayer: No Trap Game For Bears
(WSCR) This weekend's matchup between the Bears and the Chargers could be categorized as the tale of two teams heading in drastically different directions.
The Bears are riding high on a four-game winning streak as they look to secure a post season berth. The Chargers, however, are falling apart at the seams amid a four-game losing streak.
The dramatic differences in each team's makeup have led some to classify this as a "trap game" for the Bears -- one that could catch them sleeping and reroute their playoff course.
But Bears radio man Tom Thayer isn't afraid of the trap-game hype.
"Trap games aren't going to happen," Thayer told The Mully and Hanley Show on Friday. "I think there is too much maturity on this roster to allow these guys to come out of the locker room and be so flat that they can't even get in there and compete. You have to have a lot of respect for each opponent.

This particular opponent features the at-times, high-flying Chargers offense manned by quarterback Philip Rivers.
"Philip Rivers is very challenging," Thayer said. "He's a big, strong, confident quarterback who's going to sit in the pocket. He's got some big receivers. He's got release weapons in Antonio Gates. I think it's going to be a really challenging game for the defense because it's a different threat than Michael Vick was two weeks ago, than Matthew Stafford was last week and what Philip Rivers will be this week. They're entirely different quarterbacks."
