Thayer: Bears Must Stop Matthews
(WSCR) When the Bears take the field tonight against the Packers, the offensive line will have quite a task in blocking one specific pass rusher.
According to one Bears expert, no one on the Colts defensive line truly compares to what the Packers can offer.
"When I watched Green Bay throughout the preseason and even last year, they have one bona fide pass-rusher," Bears radio analyst Tom Thayer told The Mully and Hanley Show. "There's one guy that you gotta be concerned about every single time... That is Clay Matthews. But there are so many ways to put a guy on the outside of J'Marcus Webb or keep the back in the backfield for a second to give him that security check. Or, you slide the protection in the direction of Clay Matthews, so you still have the big body of J'Marcus Webb blocking Clay Matthews first, but you have his inside protected by Chris Spencer, the left guard, who will slide in the direction of Clay"

Still Thayer thinks the Bears' Week 1 win, coupled with the Packers' loss, will give the Bears a slight edge they haven't had in the past.
"It's different," Thayer said. "One team is coming up here with concerns on how they can continue the performance of getting better. There's another team trying to figure out how they can stop the bleeding immediately, especially in such an important divisional game early in the season."
