That's All She Wrote: Justin Bieber? Who Cares?

By George Ofman-

(CBS) OK, we have a big problem here: too many murders, but Brazil? A soccer referee stabs a player to death on the field and friends retaliate but by carving up the ref's body and holding his head on a stick! Let's have a redo and bring the 2016 Summer Olympics here. Everyone would be much safer.

*************************

I will spend this much time on Justin Bieber....Who cares?

*************************

I will spend this much time on Jim Belushi... Enough already.

*************************

If Matt Garza isn't traded before the deadline it won't be because the Cubs are trying to keep him, it's because management asked for too much. That said, it will shock me if he's not dealt and I'm going to pick a dark horse... the Cleveland Indians.

*************************

No matter what happens after the deadline, you have to credit Dale Sveum for keeping the Cubs competitive. If it wasn't for an absolutely horrendous bullpen, this team might be a shade over .500.  But the rebuilding process must continue, and let's not delude ourselves into thinking this team will compete for a playoff spot next season.  The three outfielders, the third baseman, maybe the shortstop and likely the catcher will not be starters for a championship team at Wrigley Field.

*************************

How much do you want to bet Edwin Jackson finishes the season .500?

*************************

Would you trade Chris Sale? Let's put it this way: the White Sox need to have an open mind on all of its players.  But having Sale, Quintana and Danks back, so long as he continues pitching the way he has, does give the Sox three formidable starters.

*************************

Josh Phegley has four hits in 20 at bat. Three of them are homers, one of which a game-winning grand slam. And the kid has eight RBI. What's wrong with getting a little excited on the South Side?

*************************

The Jay Cutler talk has already begun. Will he be good enough to guide the Bears to a Super Bowl with an offense tailored to his needs? This conversation will continue, and often.

*************************

I hope Major League Baseball has an air-tight case against the Biogenisis gang because the players association will challenge it to the hilt. None of the 20 players are saying word one to MLB. I sense a nasty court fight ahead.

*************************

Here's what I expect Chris Chelios to do when he makes his induction speech at the Hockey Hall of Fame: announce he's making a comeback. Heck, he's only 51.  Remember how Mike Keenan infuriated Hawks fans by trading Denis Savard to Montreal for Chelios? A season later the Hawks made the Final only to get wiped out by the Penguins. Savard won a Stanley Cup with the Canadians a year after that.

*************************

Who's duping who? The Patriots Alfonzo Dennard arrested on a DUI charge in Nebraska. New England selected him in the seventh round despite an arrest for assaulting a police officer five days earlier. Instead of claiming he was duped as Pats owner, Robert Kraft said of Aaron Hernandez, perhaps he should have said he was duped by his underlings who have determined the team must draft miscreants.  You get what you pay for.

That's all she wrote.
