Thanksgiving Travelers Get Out Of Town Ahead Of East Coast Storm
(CBS) -- Several major airlines say you might want to skip flying tomorrow, if you're heading east. In fact, they'll let you change plans without penalty.
CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports some passengers took advantage of that offer and left O'Hare today.
Little Sebastian is flying to Philly for Thanksgiving day before a snow storm is expected to pummel the eastern seaboard. His mother Kristi Larentowicz says she is "relieved" to be leaving early.
It quite literally may be the calm before the storm at O'Hare. Departure boards list almost every flight as on time - a rarity this time of year. And those originally scheduled to head east today are glad they are.
"Busiest travel say of the year so we wanted to get there before that," said Gurnee resident Steve Arnold.
The Lake Bluff Haeblers aren't taking any chances. Their plan was to be Ohio-bound Wednesday. They became forecast aware and decided to take off a day ahead.
"We wanted to make sure that we get to grandma's house and we gave another 24 hours to do that just in case there was a problem," said Phillip Haebler.
Almost two million people are expected to go through O'Hare and Midway between now and next Tuesday. Evelyn Mason isn't concerned about getting to her destination. But her return?
"I have more to come to when I get back, so I will deal with that then," said Mason.
