Tentative Agreement In Evergreen Park Teachers' Strike
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The school board and teachers in Evergreen Park have reached a tentative agreement to end the strike.
Students are expected to return to school on Monday in School District 124. Both sides plan one more session to finalize details of the agreement.
Teachers went on strike last Tuesday, largely over salary issues and health care costs.
The deal was reached in the early morning hours on Friday. A vote to approved the contract could happen this weekend.
"I think everybody is happy that it is over," said board president Kathy Rohan. 'With every negotiation everybody gets something they want and you don't get something you want. We are all relieved that the kids should be back in school on Monday."
"We worked very hard on reaching an agreement, to finish out all the open items on the table," said Illinois Federation of Teachers field service director Deneen Pajeau.
Specifics of the deal are not being made public until the tentative contract is in writing and has been approved.
About 150 teachers and 60 support staff walked out Oct. 2 after negotiations that began in April failed to achieve a new contract. The prior contract expired June 30.
