Police: No Trace Of Alcohol In Kids After Restaurant Served Booze

CHICAGO (CBS) -- At least ten children were taken to the hospital as a precaution Tuesday night, after wait staff at a Little Village restaurant mistakenly served alcohol, but police said none of the kids had any alcohol in their system.
CBS 2's Susanna Song reports the children were at a birthday party at the Home Run Inn pizza restaurant at 31st and Kildare around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
They ordered fruit punch with their pizza, but their server accidentally brought them punch spiked with alcohol. Police said the server made a mistake with their order.
Police sources said at least one child drank the punch, and might have shared the drink with others.
Kids Accidentally Served Spiked Punch
Parents who were at the party said they didn't know at first what was going on. After the kids had been served the punch, the wait staff came back and took the drinks away.
Police and paramedics were called to the restaurant after the staff realized the mistake.
Neyante Eggleston, whose son was at the party, said by then some kids were crying.
"The drinks tasted funny to begin with, but we didn't pay it any attention. We thought it was just us," she said. "They just came and swooped all the cups up, so we like 'Okay, what's going on?' So as they're swooping cups up, one of the parents of the kids got a whiff of the cup, and it was alcohol."
At least ten children were taken to the hospital as a precaution, after some of them complained of feeling sick. It was not clear whether all those children drank the punch. They were all in good condition.
"We are aware of a situation at our 31st Street restaurant on Tuesday, April 8th," said Home Run Inn president Daniel Costello. "We are currently working with staff to conduct an internal investigation to discern the facts of what occurred."
Eggleston said she was upset the restaurant staff did not tell parents what had happened.
