Temperatures To Hit 80s, But Rain Chance To Persist
CHICAGO (CBS) Chicago's weather will seem like a cross between Seattle and Miami Wednesday, as the temperatures climb to highs that palm trees would like, but the threat of off-and-on rain persists.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says as of 11:20 a.m., it was already 73 degrees at O'Hare International Airport, 75 at Midway, and 77 at Gary, Ind. Only far to the southwest were temperatures any cooler; it was 67 in Peru as rain kept the air cool.
Light rain was falling across the Chicago area as of 11:20 a.m., and some of it wasn't even hitting the ground. More rain was expected to hit areas to the south such as Joliet and Kankakee.
While major thunderstorms are not expected, there is a slight risk of severe weather for a broad expanse that includes the Chicago area.
Later in the day, the warm front will advance to the north, and the rain and storms will eventually work their way out as the high climbs to 83. South-southwest winds will blast warm air at speeds of 10 to 30 mph, and some areas may see sunshine.
Overnight, the low drops to 65 with partly cloudy skies. On Thursday, the high climbs to 85, with mostly sunny skies and a 20 percent chance of rain.
The high for Friday is 78, for Saturday 72, for Sunday 65, for Monday 62, and for Tuesday 60. Chances of storms persist through Friday, and a chance of rain remains in the forecast through the weekend.
