Temperatures To Climb To 40s With Increasing Sunshine
CHICAGO (CBS) -- This is the first day of meteorological spring, but the spring-like temperatures that predominated in the Chicago area 24 hours ago are history.
But sunshine is expected to break through the cloud cover in the second half of the day.
Temperatures were chilly this March 1 morning as of 11 a.m. It was just 37 degrees at Midway International Airport, and 39 degrees at O'Hare.
But no rain or snow is expected for the rest of the day. The dry conditions come courtesy of a ridge of high pressure now over the area.
The forecast high for the day is 46 degrees, with a low of 37 degrees overnight. Clouds will return in the overnight hours, with a 20 percent chance of rain.
On Friday, temperatures will climb to the 50s and even 60s in some areas, but it won't be a day for taking a jog or riding your unicycle on the lakefront like Wednesday. Showers and possible thunderstorms will persist through the day, as a cold front comes through.
And wouldn't you know it, yet again just in time for the weekend, the highs come crashing down to the 30s. The high for Saturday is 37 and for Sunday 38.
WBBM Newsradio Meteorologist Bob Larson says some snow flurries might be in the air on Saturday morning. And a rain-snow mix is a possibility on Sunday.
But the snow Sunday is not expected to accumulate, Glaros says.
And if you're off for Pulaski Day Monday, you'll be pleased by the weather. The high for Monday is 45 degrees.
